Treatments for Body Acne

Acne is never easy to deal with, no matter how old you are. Whether you are a teenager or an adult, it can be difficult. Body acne adds another layer of difficulty, making it next to impossible to wear summer clothing or take a dip in the pool without feeling ridiculed. However, there are treatments available for acne on the body, just as there are for acne on the face. It is just a matter of finding the right sort of treatment for your specific case. Avoid Irritation
– One of the best ways to prevent and even cure body acne is to avoid irritation to the skin. This means you should always wear cotton, a breathable cloth, when you work out. Change clothes following a workout. If you get especially sweaty, a shower is in order. Avoid wearing any fabric that irritates your skin, chafes or causes itching.

Salicylic Acid
– Salicylic acid is an effective acne-fighting ingredient included in numerous cleansers and creams. It works by removing dirt and oil from the pores and helps dry up excess oil on the skin’s surface. Follow up with an oil-free moisturizer to prevent over-drying the skin.

Benzoyl Peroxide
– Benzoyl peroxide is a stronger ingredient used in over-the-counter and prescription acne topical treatments. It works by drying out oil on the skin and removing dead skin cells. This helps boost the rate at which skin cells replenish themselves, making for a smoother complexion. However, benzoyl peroxide is harsh on the skin and can cause excess drying, peeling and redness. To combat these side effects, use an oil-free moisturizer and sunscreen.

Maintain Hygiene
– Keeping your skin clean is one of the best ways to treat body acne. Take a shower every day and use a mild cleanser to remove oil, dirt and dead skin cells. Do not pick or pinch at acne on your body. Instead, let your treatment creams do their work. Picking at acne with your fingernails can introduce new bacteria into the blemishes and prolong or worsen your condition.

Skip Synthetics
– Synthetic fabrics have a tendency not to breathe. Because of this, they can be especially bad for acne-prone skin. To avoid sweaty skin that breaks out often, wear lightweight, cotton materials that allow your skin to breathe. The more oxygen your skin gets, the faster it will heal and less likely you will be to experience another breakout.
