It’s the beginning of a new season, when we are all hitting the shops to grab those last minute, key pieces we need for spring/summer 2013. As always there are so many options for trends this year it can get a little confusing, my advice is to always buy a staple for the season that can be worn in a variety of ways.
Here is my staple that I simply can’t live without – The Trench Coat.
The Male Trench
A trench coat for the man in your life, or yourself, is a must for this year and if you pick carefully it should take you from spring to winter with ease! For this post I have picked this beautiful example from British Designer Brand, Private White VC.
There are two main reasons that I absolutely love this coat, firstly it is handcrafted British made menswear something I am very passionate about, and secondly it is made from the finest quality materials so it is an investment for the future. This Trench hit’s this year’s military trend on the head with the double breasting and leather cuffs, and has been created from 100% wool; it will definitely keep you warm and cozy in the chilly spring breeze.
For the perfect every day look I would team this jacket with a pair of these “Beatles” corduroy jeans and ankle boots such as Dr Martins. I love the contrasting colours between this trench and the jeans, they are slightly miss matched together, which adds in a stylish layer to the outfit!
I love the fact that this jacket is so versatile that you can also wear this in the evenings too. I would add in a pair of classic navy skinny jeans and loafers for a cool bar to club combination!
The Female Trench
Ok, don’t despair ladies, I have us covered too with this fabulous Trench coat from our old favourite, Zara. This wool mix trench has beautiful gold button detailing that I love, and is great as a styling accent for the rest of your outfit. I also admire the fact that this is a zip up jacket, this makes it a lot easier to wear over all our clothes and stop the buttons holes from pulling and gaping!
Like the men’s option, this is also extremely versatile and is lightweight enough to be worn all year round, for work and play! I would definitely add this to my wardrobe as an everyday work jacket – it is smart enough to take to meetings and to and from the office! For work I would definitely wear opaque tights, a classic pencil skirt and patterned blouse, this will bring in a little vintage flair to the overall look!
For a casual look then I would have to grab a pair of skinny jeans, aubergine would really work well with this jacket! I would then add in a chunky cable knit and knee boots = perfection!
Whatever staple item you choose to buy this year, don’t forget about the humble trench it really will be around forever!
