How To Look Wonderfully Glamorous For Formal Events

What do you wear when someone invites you to a formal event? When the dress code to a party is formal, it’s more than likely that the hosts want you in black tie attire. This means that men should wear a tuxedo – or at least a well fitted morning suit – and the ladies are expected to show up in either cocktail frocks or long evening dresses such as you can buy here. On trendier and less traditional occasions, the key is to look well groomed and follow the black-tie dress code but with more freedom for accessories and such. Here are a few tips on how to look wonderfully glamorous for formal events.

1. Go monochrome!

One of this year’s biggest trends is monochrome, mixing black and white shades in your outfit. This is ideal for a formal event, as the dress code is traditionally black tie – or sometimes white tie. A combination of the two will make you stand out and look fabulous; this is a look that is both playful yet dignified at the same time.

2. Do something fun with your hair!

Having a good hairdo is half of the work of looking great for an event. As we have seen on both the catwalk and in magazines, the biggest hairstyles this year are knots, criss-cross braids and low, wide ponytails: these looks are all easy to achieve in the comfort of your own home, with a little help from a friend or a family member.

3. Put some shine on it!

Sequin, satin, metallic colours and crystals – you name it and as long as it’s shiny, it will both complement and complete your glamorous and formal look! Grazia magazine’s report from the frontlines of Spring/Summer London Fashion Week, which you can read here, demonstrated that everything which gleams in the sun is fashionable right now! Don’t overdo it, but mixing in a little glam with your monochrome outfit will give it that bit of extra sparkle. Maybe you can find a sequined blazer to wear on top of your dress, or a clutch with diamonds embroidered into it. If you’re still a little hesitant, then maybe you can even go simple with a pair of metallic earrings to complete your outfit.

4. Matte about you

Matte makeup is the number one trend right now, and is especially fortunate for those ladies among you who otherwise have to deal with an oily complexion. Matte makeup comes in all sorts of shades and forms, whether we’re are talking about plum or rose, black or white, moisturizer or lipstick, nail polish or eye shadow. Try it to give a finish your glamorous look.

A Black Tie invitation calls for formal attire. Men wear tuxedos, women wear cocktail , long dresses or dressy evening separates. A little black dress is completely appropriate for black tie functions.
