Knowing your undertone is essential and can improve your look — you can improve the color choice of your clothing and make-up a lot. So exactly how many undertones are there? The answer is only three — warm, neutral and cool undertones.

  • Warm: golden, yellow and honey tones
  • Neutral: more of a mixture of cool and warm
  • Cool: rosy, pink, reds with blue undertones

Decode Your Undertone

When you are fair, dark or somewhere on between you can be either cool warm, or a combination of the two. It is a common misconception that fair skin is cool and dark skin is warm. This is not always the case. Use the chart above to tell if you are cool or warm.

COOL

  • Your skin’s undertone is: Pink or bluish
  • Your most flattering makeup shades are: Jewel tones like blue, green, pink, and blue-based reds

WARM

  • When exposed to sunlight, you: Tan easily
  • Your skin’s undertone is: Yellowish or greenish
  • Your most flattering makeup shades are: Earth tones like yellow, coral, bronze, and orange-based reds
